Kestrel Ridge News

Monday 9 August 2010 :: Excellent turnout for the Aug 8th schooling show

Dull weather couldn't diminish the competitors' sparkle in the latest schooling show here at Kestrel Ridge Farm.

Over 35 entries (with many new faces) made for a long but very rewarding day, as the Wild Rose series of schooling shows continued.

The day was very relaxed and, as always, had a supportive atmosphere which especially helped the newest competitors. Tests from Training Level-1 up to PSG were performed, while supporters and grooms provided assistance and cheers between rounds of coffee and donuts!

The day started with reasonable weather, cool but good for riding. Light rain drifted in just before lunchtime, to be replaced by brighter weather a few minutes later. Welcome to Calgary, Alberta!

Saturday 19 June 2010 :: Educate Your Eye Clinic - Huge Success

Our latest clinic "Educate Your Eye" was a huge success, with far more than the expected number of attendees. Mostly dressage riders, youth and adult amateur, but also some judges and judges in training were in the audience.

Visiting UK List 1 Dressage Judge Mary-Anne Horn held the audience enthralled as she explained what dressage judges are looking for;

  • she described the scales of training
  • she explained what judges expect at the different levels of dressage test, referencing back to the scales of training

Several generous riders rode a variety of levels of test and Mary-Ann scored the test and then explained to the crowd what scores she had given and why.

Mary-Ann picked one area for improvement with most of the demonstration riders and coached them through some exercises. At the conclusion of a few minutes of exercise under her watchful eye the riders all made pronounced improvements!

At the conclusion of the event the enthusiastic audience had been entertained and educated.

Thank you Mary-Ann and bravo to all our demonstration riders!
